Stand – rather complicated, expensive assembly that has a considerable weight. It is a modular design, and the number of elements depends on the type and a purpose of a rolling mill. Stand caliber forms an oval shape with the help of working rollers and execute in the main rolling operation allows to deform metal, forming required sizes and shape.

Today, the pipe factories are equipped with duo- and trio- pipe rolling plants. However, in recent years three-roll stand are getting more and more widespread in use if compare with two-roll stand mills, as they allow to produce pipes with more qualitative external and internal surfaces due to less wall thickness deviation in cross-section of rolling shell, higher reduction ratio because of three-roll caliber design, without profile skewing during rolling operation. At the same time the majority of drive capacity is spent on lengthening of deforming metal.
